Martha Cruz has more than 14 years Loft Law experience. In 2005, she became the Director of Hearings for the New York City Loft Board. As Director of Hearings, she managed the Loft Board's hearings caseload.
In 2009, the Executive Director of the Loft Board promoted her to Deputy General Counsel, a position she held until 2019. As Deputy General Counsel, Ms. Cruz assisted the Executive Director in the Loft Board's restructuring, policy making and the drafting of the Loft Board's regulations. She also counseled the Loft Board on policy matters, rule making and proposed legislation.
Ms. Cruz supervised the legal staff and advised the Loft Board on Loft Law case law and precedent. As Deputy General Counsel, she worked with Corporation Counsel on litigation brought against the Loft Board.
Ms. Cruz has conducted training about the Loft Law. She has also testified before the City Council and the Board of Standards and Appeals on issues related to the Loft Law.
